Before We Begin
A few honest answers to questions worth asking
A few thoughtful answers to questions we’re often asked about our approach to private travel design.
What kind of travel do you design?
I design highly personalized journeys centered around how you want to feel while traveling.
That may include a luxury hotel stay, villa retreat, wellness escape, ship-based journey, group celebration, or a complex multi-stop itinerary. I curate every aspect of the experience, from selecting the right destination to arranging accommodations, transfers, dining, spa reservations, excursions, and in-trip support.
I also help with something most people don’t expect from a travel designer: preparing you for the experience itself. From wardrobe guidance to understanding luxury service expectations, I help ensure you feel comfortable, confident, and fully at ease from the moment you arrive.
Do you only book full trips?
No. I can assist with a single component — such as a hotel stay, villa, or ship-based journey — or design your trip end-to-end. The level of service and planning fees may vary depending on the scope and complexity of what you need.
Who do you work best with?
I work best with busy professionals and busy parents traveling without the kids who value their time and want to fully hand off the mental load of planning.
My clients typically:
-
Prefer luxury over bargain hunting
-
Want highly personalized recommendations
-
Appreciate thoughtful service and attention to detail
-
Want things anticipated before they need to ask
-
Want to feel special, but never overdone
-
Value experiences that feel meaningful, restorative, and elevated
They are often newer to luxury travel and want someone they trust to guide them.
Who are you not the right fit for?
I may not be the best fit if your primary focus is finding the lowest price. I am likely not the right fit if you:
-
Are actively price shopping across multiple advisors or websites
-
Prefer booking through platforms like Booking.com or Cruise.com
-
Care more about simply getting there than the quality of the experience
-
Want endless options instead of curated recommendations
My clients hire me because they want expert curation, thoughtful planning, and peace of mind.
Why use a travel advisor when I can book online?
Because booking is only a small part of creating an exceptional trip.
The internet gives you options. I provide clarity, discernment, and guidance. I narrow down what fits you so you don’t waste hours researching places that look good online but may not align with your travel style. More importantly, I advocate for you before and during travel.
Why shouldn’t I just book this myself?
You absolutely can. The better question is: do you want to?
Many of my clients are fully capable of planning their own travel. They simply don’t want to spend their valuable time researching, comparing, coordinating logistics, and troubleshooting details. They want to arrive knowing everything has already been thoughtfully handled.
Can I get better prices online?
Sometimes you may see lower advertised pricing online, but price alone rarely tells the full story. I focus on overall value, not simply rate. That may include:
-
Better room placement
-
Preferred partner amenities
-
Breakfast or resort credits
-
Upgrades when available
-
VIP recognition
-
Stronger support if something goes wrong
Luxury travel is not just about securing a room. It is about the experience surrounding it.
Can you match pricing from mass-market booking sites?
I do not compete with mass-market booking engines on price alone. What I offer is personalized guidance, trusted partnerships, advocacy, and a level of service that online booking platforms simply do not provide.
Aren’t travel advisors obsolete now that we have the internet?
If travel advisors only booked flights and hotels, perhaps. But exceptional travel design is more relevant than ever because the internet has created overwhelming choice.
The real value today is not access to information. It is knowing what matters, what does not, and what is right for you.
Is luxury travel just expensive hotels?
Not at all. Luxury is not defined by price alone.
To me, luxury is service that anticipates your needs before you ask. It is thoughtful details. It is being known. For one person, luxury may be total privacy and quiet. For another, it may be seamless logistics, extraordinary food, or deeply personalized service. True luxury feels effortless.
What is your planning process?
My planning process is intentionally thoughtful and highly personalized so you feel supported from the very beginning and never overwhelmed by endless choices or unnecessary logistics.
1. Inquiry
Everything begins with your inquiry form, where I gather initial details about your trip, travel style, preferences, and goals.
2. Discovery Call
I schedule a call to discuss your vision in more depth. This is where I get to know not just where you want to go, but how you like to travel, what matters most to you, and what kind of experience you want to have. Often, what makes a trip extraordinary is not just the destination. It is understanding the person taking it.
3. Agreement and Planning Fee
Once you decide to move forward, you will review my service agreement and submit the applicable planning fee. This allows me to begin dedicated research and design work on your behalf.
4. Curated Proposal
I design and present a highly curated proposal tailored specifically to you. Rather than overwhelming you with endless options, I typically begin with three carefully selected recommendations that best fit your travel style, priorities, and goals.
5. Refinement
Based on your feedback, I refine and adjust the itinerary until everything feels aligned. This may include accommodations, room categories, dining, activities, spa experiences, transfers, or other personalized touches.
6. Booking and Confirmation
Once you approve the final plan, I secure all bookings and confirmations. I also coordinate with my preferred partners to advocate for your experience and ensure important preferences are communicated in advance whenever possible.
7. Pre-Trip Preparation
Before departure, you will receive your final travel documents, reminders, and guidance to help you feel fully prepared. This may include destination tips, wardrobe recommendations, and cultural etiquette. For clients who want additional support, I offer wardrobe curation to ensure you feel comfortable, appropriately dressed, and confident for your destination. For clients local to Orange County, Los Angeles, or San Diego, this may include in-person curation. For clients outside the area, I provide curated recommendations through online sourcing.
8. Travel Support
While you travel, I remain available should something unexpected arise. My goal is for you to feel fully taken care of so you can focus on being present and enjoying the experience.
I believe too many choices create stress. My role is to filter through the noise, narrow the options, and guide you toward what truly fits you — so planning feels effortless and travel feels deeply personal.
Do you charge planning fees?
Yes, for many services. Planning fees reflect the time, expertise, research, and highly personalized design involved in creating your trip.
Charging a planning fee also ensures that I work for you, not for any specific hotel, cruise line, or travel company. While I have trusted partnerships across the industry, my recommendations are never driven by supplier compensation. I represent your interests first.
All fees are quoted before work begins and are non-refundable.
Do you book flights?
Yes, with some limitations. I book premium cabin commercial airfare and can coordinate private air. I do not book economy-only flights — those are usually best handled directly by the traveler.
Do you book travel using points?
I do not directly book award travel using points. However, I can help identify options and connect you with trusted partners such as point.me for redemption support.
Do you handle last-minute trips?
Yes. Depending on availability and complexity, I can assist with last-minute travel.
Do you plan group trips?
Yes. I assist with celebration travel, milestone birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette trips, corporate retreats, group ship-based journeys, and multi-generational travel.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Planning fees are non-refundable. Supplier cancellation and change policies vary by partner, and any changes will follow those terms and conditions. I do not charge a separate change fee, though all changes are subject to my partners’ terms.
Why Bienvenido a Casa — Welcome Home?
Because the best travel does not just impress you. It stays with you.
To me, travel feels like home when you feel deeply understood. It is the little things: your favorite snack waiting in your room, a hotel noting your preferences without being asked, an experience that reflects not just what you said, but what you meant.
That feeling of being known is what I want every client to experience.
What do you want clients to feel when they return home?
I want your trip to become something you talk about long after you return. Not just because it was beautiful, but because it changed something in you.
I want you to feel seen, cared for, and transformed by the experience.
If any of this resonates, I would love to hear from you.
